Penelope Timmis (b 1956) studied art at the Froebel Institute in Roehampton followed by further study in Shrewsbury. She returned to painting in 2000 having spent years farming and raising her family in the Shropshire countryside.
Now an established painter, Penelope’s work is sold regularly and she exhibits widely. She was elected an Associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (ARBSA), where she won best entry in 2009, and is an Associate of the Society of Women Artists (ASWA).
Penelope works from her farmhouse studio in the Shropshire Countryside and takes inspiration from her surroundings, using acrylic, watercolour, gouache and collage to create her paintings. "It is the light and instant colour that attracts me, in much the same way as the light which comes through a farm gate in a darkened country lane which has life hidden in the shadows. Colour and movement are what I look for in all that I see around me and I hope are reflected in my paintings," says Penelope Timmis.
